Recent Trip to Palm Springs - Riviera Hotel

I recently went down to Palm Springs for the weekend to visit my grandparents. We stayed at the famed Riviera Hotel. After undergoing a huge renovation on this former 60's hot spot, Noble House Hotels & Resorts re-launched this historic property in October 2008. It is a beautiful property in a stunning setting with a nod to the mid-century aesthetics, but with an updated modern twist. As usual, I should have taken more pictures, but managed to snap a few of the Hotel, room, and pool plus a few about town shots.

I was struck by the pictures over the cabanas at the pool from the 1960's, and the fact that besides the fashion, the scene basically is identical to how it was when I was there in 2011. Some things never change, and I suspect lounging at the pool in the sun will still be happening in 2050.

For more information and images you can visit the Hotel Riviera's Website.

Boutique Meets Corporate in Hotel Partnership

In an interesting, and probably wise from all angles, partnership the original king of the Boutique Hotel concept Ian Schrager teems up with corporate hospitality giant Marriott. These two will create a new lifestyle hotel brand called Edition. The thinking is that more and more customers want the personalized service and style that Schrager is legendary for (think Mondrian in LA, Delano Hotel in Miami, Hudson Hotel in NYC, Clift Hotel in San Francisco, & Sanderson Hotel in London), as well as the operational expertise that the Marriott company is known for.

The partnership has recently opened the first of many to come in Waikiki.

Rates start at $375. I love the boutique hotel concept and am interested to see how this partnership works. I am sure cost conscious Marriott will have a difference of opinion or two with the legendary hotelier known for having to have the coolest of everything. That said, it makes sense on a lot of levels, and will bring high design and service to more properties throughout the world. Please visit the Edition Hotels website for more information.
